Issue No. 3: Spain’s Best Beach Destination According to National Geographic Readers

ISSUE 03

For this issue, we’re stopping in Llanes – a small town in Asturias – that was awarded this year’s title of The Best Beach Destination in Spain according to National Geographic readers. You can go to famous beaches like Torimbia, Ballota, and Gulpiyuri, or enjoy the sunset at beaches inside the city – El Sablón, Puerto Chico, or Toró Beach.

Visit Smaller Towns in favour of Sustainable Tourism

As bigger destinations like Barcelona and Madrid are getting swamped by tourists in the high season, it’s time to think about spreading out across Spain and visit the smaller towns as well.

Besides the benefit of improving the local economy for towns that are lacking tourists, you may get more out of your trip. You may experience more Spanish cultural authenticity in small towns than in big cities.

Just be mindful of the impact you are making on the town you are visiting. Be respectful of the natural beauty and of the locals – while remembering that it’s better to book a hotel or a rural house.
