What to order
La Trastienda in Granada has an extensive menu of charcuterie dishes with cured meat, pates, smoked fish and different cheeses. If you’re not in a big group, it’s pretty difficult to choose what to order, because they have so many good options. At this time we chose an old favorite – the Lomo – and the two new platters of fish. We were very happy with our choice!
1. Mojama y Huevas de Maruca
- Mojama y Huevas de Maruca is made with cured tuna loin and dried fish roe, served at room temperature, and known for its rich and savoury flavour.
- The perfect tapa for those hot summer nights in Andalusia

Although founded in 1836, La Trastienda feels hidden. It’s in the city center, but it’s not on the main street. You go in, and you don’t see any tables – just the deli counter. You have to walk past it and walk into the back, where the tables are.
Once seated, you realize this is a place with a lot of history: the Andalusian decor with colorful tiles covers the whole place, and the tables are the right size to make you come closer and tell your friends what’s new or how your day went.
This is a place where you go in the evenings to eat cold tapas and get a vermut – which is what you’ll want on those hot summer days. Their products are high quality – everything we tried on several occasions was fantastic – and our friends and family thanked us for taking them here.
And we still day dream about their House Vermut!
