If you’re thinking of going to Spain in winter, you’ll love the lack of crowds and the mild Mediterranean weather, better than in northern Europe. We compiled a list for each month, so you can plan based on your vacation days.
Spain in December

If you want to go to Spain in December, there are plenty of options to choose from, whether you’re looking for Christmas Markets, fabulous Ski slopes, or relaxing spa resorts.
- Madrid – the perfect destination if you want to feel the Christmas spirit in Spain
- Val d’Aran – change the Alps for the Pyrenees and plan your skiing trip in what National Geographic called the Catalan Switzerland
- Huesca – relax at one of the most impressive spas in Spain, in the middle of the mountains
Spain in January

The Mediterranean Coast is a great option for visiting Spain in January. There is a lower chance of rain compared to most of the country, and you can enjoy the sun near a beautiful beach. The destinations we’ve chosen for January also have plenty of activities for couples and families.
- València – famous for having over 300 days of sun every year
- Alicante – located a little bit further south of Valencia, Alicante has similar good weather and is close to beautiful coastal towns
- Málaga – sunny days and fewer crowds at the Picasso Museum in January
Spain in February

Going to Spain in February is great for people with interests and activities like romantic light shows in Barcelona, a colorful carnival on the islands, and visiting warm-weather, less touristy cities by the Mediterranean.
- Barcelona – Llum BCN three-day light arts festival & celebrate Saint Valentine’s Day
- Tenerife – be part of Spain’s most famous carnival
- Cartagena – explore a first-century BC Roman theater with few crowds and pleasant winter weather
