TasteAtlas Names Galicia One of the Best Food Destinations to Visit in August – Here Is What to Eat

The famous gastronomic publication TasteAtlas posted on 31 July 2026 on their Instagram and Facebook accounts a list called “Best Food Destinations in August”. One of these destinations is Galicia, Spain. It’s no surprise to us, since Galicia food culture is built on exceptional seafood and beef,

While you can enjoy amazing dishes in Galicia all year round, August is a great time to visit because that’s when the Festa do Pulpo (Fiesta de Pulpo) takes place. This yearly event dedicated to octopus takes place in the town of O Carballiño on 8-9 August, when they can serve up to 30 tons of octopus to its visitors.

The weather in August is also warm enough to visit amazing places like the Cíes Islands. Rodas Beach, located on these islands, was voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world in 2025 by World’s 50 beaches and as the best beach in the world by The Guardian. Since there are no hotels on the Cíes Islands, you’d get a hotel in Vigo and take a boat to visit Rodas Beach and the many others.

One other great plan for Galicia in August is to go to Santiago de Compostela – the capital of the region and where all the Camino pilgrims hope to reach. While wandering the cobblestone streets of this Northern city, stop at a “pulperia” and order the famous Pulpo á feira – also known as Pulpo a la Gallega.

Walk some more and take another break to continue with the local seafood tapas like Vieira, Navajas, or Zamburiñas. And you can’t leave Santiago de Compostela without trying the Chuletón de Vaca Gallega with Pimientos de Padron!
